The Tuscan Challenge Series
They say that to be a race driver you have to be slightly mad or stupid, in fact
probably both!
The Tuscan Challenge Series epitomises this statement. In 1989 the Tuscan
Challenge race car was born out of the 1988 road going prototype developed for
the Motorshow. The TVR Tuscan Challenge Series quickly became the UK's premier
and indeed fastest one make series in the Country. It has been the proving
ground for a number of today's' well known characters of motorsport. Including an
outing by "our Nige" who didn't appear to enjoy the experience that much,
particularly at Donington!
Since that time, the car and its' power output has been developed even further.
The full AJP8 powered race Tuscan is capable of 0-60 mph in a little over 3
seconds and 0-100 mph in just 6.9 seconds. No wonder Autosport Magazine said
"There is no doubt that the TVR Tuscan challenge is a place for the gifted or
the brave".
With a bhp of around 530 per tonne, it's capable of speeds in excess of 190 mph
and has delighted Britain's race supporters with fantastic close car racing.
Despite the TVR factory unexpectedly pulling its support out of the series just
before the 2005 Season began, you can't keep a good series down. The Series has
now developed into the Dunlop TVR Challenge, broadening its appeal across all
TVR models and the races continue to attract large crowds and gain full TV
coverage on Motors TV and Channel 5.

As we prepare for the 2007 Season, grid sizes will once again provide exciting
racing throughout the field and spectators will be able to enjoy watching a
number of the first ever race prepared Sagaris's battle it out with Tuscan
Challenge Cars, T350s, Cerberas, Griffiths, Tasmins and Chimaeras. It should
prove to be the best Season yet in its' current format, with the largest variety
of TVRs racing together for the first time.
Of course there will be a class structure to account for the greatly differing
power of the various cars and this has been kept to three simple categories:-
Class A - Turbo cars up to 3 litres and more than 350bhp, normally aspirated
cars with 5 litres or more than 350 bhp.
Class B - Turbo cars up to 3 litres with less than 350 bhp, normally aspirated
cars between 3.0-5.0 litres and less than 350 bhp.
Class C - Normally aspirated cars up to 3 litres.
