29th July 2005 - Oulton Park Testing:

Having never driven the circuit before, we decided a half day's testing the afternoon before the race day. When we arrived it was cloudy and had been spitting rain most of the day. The track, however, seemed to be drying out quite well and so we left the slicks on. Our race engineer was unable to join us for Oulton Park and so we were on our own. In the first session I took the first few laps fairly slowly to get an idea of the circuit, and by the end of the session had got down from 2mins 14secs in the first lap to 2mins dead in the last.

The next session, the circuit was fairly dry and we built on the speed straight away, getting a best time of 1min 54secs. Although I felt I could go quicker still, on my third and final session I could only match the time, but was consistently around 1min 54/55 secs for each lap

What a great circuit though! Beautiful surroundings, and just about every challenge on  the tarmac you could want. I know there's a lot more speed to come, but felt on the edge of adhesion going through island bend and definitely need to improve Foulstons. Really looking forward to the race now!
