1st April - Brands Hatch (Indy) Test: |
|
The conditions today were very
different from the last time we were here. It was a fairly dry, warm
although misty day which should give good grip. Today's test was just
before a Radicals race meeting and consequently the grid in our group in
particular was absolutely full of radicals . In fact I was about the only
non radical in it, the downside of which is not only that in the Tuscan it
is almost impossible to see radicals coming up from behind but also their
braking points and turning in points were very different from the
Tuscan's. we're gonna have to be pretty careful to make sure that we don't
crush a Radical or two! Once again I'm on the new tyres for this season so it will be interesting to see how they compare with the tyre's we were on last time we were at Brands. Also we've changed the setup of the car this time to be slightly firmer front and rear. After putting in a fastest lap time of 53.1 in the first session. and getting quite a lot of understeer going through Clearways, we decided to soften the front bar a little. This definitely helped with the grip and we recorded our fastest lap time of the day at 52.3 secs. although I felt a little disappointed with this time we have to take into account the fact that these tyres are somewhere between 1 and 2 seconds a lap slower than the previous ones. The upside of this is that we can expect significantly longer life form the tyres. In fact It wasn't until the last 15 minutes or so of testing, by which time these tyres had done almost 4 hours of track time, that it began to feel as though someone was sitting on the back of the car shaking it about from left to right. The tyres had had it and it was time to pack up and head home after a pretty successful day. |
